Long paper short: to really put theories to the test, we should pay closer attention to causal assumptions and mechanisms before drawing conclusions (for vignettes and other designs). Randomisation does not solve everything!

I agree! I would say other perspectives are also welcome! Non DLC approaches should also be relevant to DLC 😁 Let me know if you want to chat about ideas!

I don't see why it has to be one or the other. Preregs can help us evaluate studies to falsify and build stronger theory, and formalization/ strong theoretical work can help inform more severe theory testing using preregs. Again, one of many tools...

Feels a bit like a strawman though? I don't really know anyone who thinks prereg will solve all problems. It's one tool of many we can implement

Not saying it's perfect (definitely not haha), or that it's always necessary, and of course it can be a pain, but my view is why not use the tools we have to make things clearer when we can 😁

Hm not sure about the ends-means justification made there. There were lots of advances without ethical boards, not sure we should scrap ethics. There are now many more researchers making much more incremental advances. Prereg is just 1 tool that can help us judge the reliability of those findings

Ours was pretty packed yesterday at 1, but the downside of that was it was like 50 degrees in the room and everybody suffered it was unbearable
