Okay, thank you for the fast answer. Is there a simple reason why the response is roughly logarithmic?

What I really do not understand: co2 atmospheric concentration has increased more or less exponentially for the last 150 years. Assuming that the answer of the climate system to this input is linear but time delayed, we would expect an exponential rise in global mean temperature.

Anders gesagt: mehr kann man den Sinn der Schuldenbremse nicht ad absurdum führen, als damit Investitionen in Klimaschutz zu verhindern.

It is more complicated. Molecules which can absorb infrared radiation, emit it in all directions, independent of where they are in the atmosphere. However, due to other effects (convection, temperature gradient, water vapor), surface warming is mostly caused by green house gases in upper atmosphere.

Right. If we actually could achieve net zero immediately, rising of temperatures might stop almost immediately. Other effects (sea level rising, glacier melting etc.) will continue. As I consider instantaneous net zero politically and technologically impossible, I neglected this scenario.

That was exactly what I was thinking of!

Makes perfect sense, thank you. I guess a more complete model of emergent complexity should also incorporate disassembly rules. My guess is that with a rather limited set of rules situations can arise where assembly, cutting, and further assembly could be faster than assembly alone.

There seems one thing I am not getting: The right example can be created in three steps: create A-B, B-C and C-D in step 1. Join B-A and B-C in step 2, join D-C to this in step three. What am I doing wrong?
Anyway, many thanks for this wonderful thread!

will be enraged when your life is truly threatened by the climate on a daily basis. This will be the end of our civilization. Or, maybe, you start demanding mitigation of climate change right now, when there is still time. The clock is ticking.

we will experiences shortage of food & water not only in regions of the developing world, but right here in the rich countries of the Western hemisphere, and there not only locally but wide spread. We also will experience heat waves which make living outside impossible ->
