I guess in the past good dictators usually had to enter a democracy because whoever enters the power vacuum afterwards isn't randomly sampled.

But if we sampled randomly from the top 10% of the population by intelligence and made them dictator I think it'd usually turn out better than democracy

Less certain, I think Lenin would've been way less bad than the alternatives if he'd survived/stayed in power longer. Maybe even Lee-Kwan-Yew level?

…right. I guess I *am* stretching the category of persuasion. But lots of human belief-formation doesn't route through reasoned argument! (I was gonna write all but lots of our beliefs are very mundane and just formed by direct observation)

I'd claim most superpersuasion won't route through the conscious awareness bottleneck, and also in case of fast persuasion depend on multimodality.
