All of these programs need management—BIDs are the most capable of doing so considering their partnership with city agencies. Plaza or Open Streets, both need staff monitoring once foot traffic and events reach a precipice as we’ve seen on Orchard and Canal Streets on the Lower East Side.

Space for cyclists and pedestrians has increased foot traffic. Additionally, an uptick in experience-based events from lifestyle storefronts (for better or worse) has created a new environment. Open Streets should be a pathway to fully pedestrianizing blocks with mixed residential and retail….

In all seriousness there’s not enough accounts on social media discussing business improvement districts, so I’m committed to showing up here to explain more about what we do, specifically through the lens of Lower East Side Partnership’s operations.
