Which would mean the “twin rings” we saw in the episode (and possibly as early as Re-creation) are fake.

Theory time — and I may be completely off here — what *was* different in Riposte is that Kagami’s ring itself wasn’t shown to be broken. As far as we know, only the sword protecting it was.

Similarly, Ryukomori’s ring was protected by Kagami being a literal cloud at the time.
