Marx's conception of man by Erich Fromm is a great text. I wish someone had recommended it to me when i was first getting into Marxism. Fromm restores the human character of Marxism as a theory of universal liberation.

EP Thompson is underrated in socialist circles today. I never hear him get brought up.
