This is a heightened and dramatic version of the music that plays throughout The Timeless Children, most clearly in the scene where the Timeless Child regenerates for the first time

Finally (for real this time), the 13th Doctors forced regeneration by the Master in PoTD

The scene uses a version of Vale, and is one of many tracks from Capaldis final series that has no official release. Here’s Vale as it appears in Waters of Mars

An interesting one is the version of the 1st Doctor’s regeneration in Twice Upon a Time. I don’t have many kind words to say about the story or the use of this scene by the official Doctor who YouTube channel… but that’s not relevant right now.

This reuses the same music from the doctors body getting burned in the previous episode. I’m a bit of a series 6 defender, its music in particular is praised less than it ought to be.

Bonus round! Here are some minor/non-core regenerations that also reuse or use rewritten music. First we’ve got Melody’s regeneration from Day of The Moon

Much like the rest of Chibnalls era, I think Segun Akinola’s music deserves more love. It’s more subtle for the most part, but when it kicks in there’s nothing better. It feels fresh, new and exciting.

Finally, 13s regeneration, which uses her iconic theme.

Not much else to say, just taking in the music. Gold tended to phone it in later on but occasionally, he gave us something really special.
November 22, 2024 at 3:06 PM
For 12s regeneration, there’s a little technicality. The Shepherds Boy is in fact an extended version of some music from the 50th, when the three doctors figure out how to save Gallifrey. For the purposes of this, we’ll stick to the Heaven Sent version

In my opinion, it’s better served in the regeneration. 11s speech flows with the music better than the dialogue in Rings. Still, Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman are superb in both.

11s regeneration uses a version of The Long Song, namely the slower version from the end of Rings of Akhaten.
November 22, 2024 at 2:41 PM
The music is first seen in The Big Bang when 11 sacrifices himself to restore the universe. Although the music is the same, the two scenes definitely have different vibes, a credit to the writing and performances.
November 22, 2024 at 2:41 PM
Moving on, we’ve got the War Doctors regeneration. This is another reused track.
November 22, 2024 at 2:41 PM
The part of the track we’ve heard before is the eerie vocals near the start, coincidentally used for what turned out to be a fake-out regeneration in The Impossible Astronaut

Let’s now take a detour to the various regenerations surrounding the 50th anniversary. First up is Night of The Doctor, where we get an extended version of a track from series 6.

While most of us will be familiar with the aforementioned theme, I thought I’d include a version that is most similar to that of Vale Decem. Here you can really tell the similarities between the two versions.
November 22, 2024 at 2:11 PM
For the 10th Doctors second regeneration, we hear the iconic Vale Decem which, for the most part, is original. But the part of the tract that follows 10s last words are a rendition of The Doctor’s Theme used predominantly in the RTD era.
November 22, 2024 at 2:11 PM
The music here is a rendition of Doomsday, a different but still altogether tragic version that fits 10 and Rose’s brief reunion before he is cut down by a rogue Dalek. Here is the original:

Next up is the 10th Doctor’s first regeneration at the end of Stolen Earth.
November 22, 2024 at 2:11 PM
The piece of music is in fact played for the first time in the previous scene, when The Doctor saves Rose. It’s the most obvious example of the whole lot, but the music is so good, I can’t blame them for using it twice.
