Lily had of course denied her that request. Ridiculous claims about how she had family there she couldn't leave behind. Yet she'd had no problem leaving Petunia behind. Until that moment, she'd held out hope Lily would come to her senses but she knew now that she never would.She had picked her side

Petunia had instantly cursed herself, the words had escaped her before she could help it. But how could she not try? Here Lily was telling her the world of magic hated her, didn't accept her. They didn't appreciate what they had stolen from Petunia. Her baby sister, she had to try.

There was something wrong with her, there had to be. Something fundamental that was missing from her, something that Lily had and she didn't. But what was it? Why didn't she have it? She became obsessed with the thought of being perfect. Surely she could balance this out if she was the very best.

And yet Petunia could never move on. It weighed on her, everytime she passed by Lily's empty room, everytime she wanted to tell her sister something only to find her gone she was struck with the same thought: why wasn't I good enough? The thought grew within her until it took on a life of its own.

Lily came back every summer but it was never the same. The distance between them only grew, this new world that she'd chosen over Petunia loomed over them like an ever present shadow. Their interactions grew forced, gone was the tenderness they'd shared in their youth, but they were still children.

Part of her had hoped that Lily would turn them down. That she'd choose Petunia instead of this freak world that Petunia could not venture into. That she'd say "no thank you, i'll stay with my sister". Because that's what Petunia would've done. She never abandoned her like this. But Lily was gone.

When Lily first starts showing magic, Petunia is so curious. Except Lily would never tell her how she's doing it. It's selfish really because Petunia would have explained to her if it was reversed. She knows she would have. She knows she's jealous but she can't help it. How??? she keeps wondering.

Petunia Evans would tell you with no hesitation that her little sister was her best friend. She saw no reason to be embarrassed by it, the moment Lily was born Petunia knew what it meant to love unconditionally. There was no better way to spend her days than with Lily in the fields. Her happy place
