I agree completely! In my experience running 5e games, clerics choose their domain and then later are like "whoever the god of light is. Lathander? Yeah, that guy, sure" and that's where it stops. They go into a town and you say "there is a shrine to Chauntea" and there's no reaction.

I'm much the same when it comes to Pathfinder.
