Wenn man Wissenschaftler*innen aus afrikanischen Ländern - z.B. Kamerun - einladen möchte, macht man in Deutschland leider regelmäßig die gleiche Erfahrung. Es ist beschämend.

The exhibition is unusual, as international sculpture rarely reaches Mozambican art spaces — all the more so amid the country’s political and economic crisis. Much credit goes to curator Alda Costa, who has long realized ambitious projects with very limited means.

On view until 23 November, the exhibition presents sculptures by Jorge Dias and Su-Ran Sichling, tracing links between migration in Mozambique and Germany. The museum’s former life as a Goan community clubhouse adds a fitting historical layer.

Afterwards, many countries on the continent complied with Turkey's demand to dismantle the movement's structures. Many Gülen-run schools, for example, were transferred to de facto Turkish state ownership. In Mozambique, however, Erdogan was less successful.

Great, I will be in Paris in November anyway...The interesting thing about this story is that, before the Erdogan-Gülen dispute, Turkish involvement in Africa was strongly driven by companies with ties to Gülen.

The reopening coincides with the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence. The dramatic dioramas exude a distinct retro charm. I like them.
