Designing Maelstrom. A science fiction fantasy TTRPG set in an ongoing apocalypse caused by the obscene hubris of mankind. The Maelstrom has split open the barrier between the mundane world and the Ethereal, changing the world irrevocably.

Drew a map of the area the module I'm working on takes place in. Haven't drawn in a long time. It feels good! Now just have to figure out what a map of the ethereal version of this place would look like.

Had session 2 of the playtest today. Some narrative stuff. A couple points where my characters asked "is this normal for this world" and I went, "yeah, this place is weird. oh the mist and the hallucination stag? no that parts not normal." Worked on a framework for a Narrative encounter.

Started designing the first "Focus" set of specializations, which defines a Warrior Poet style of melee fighter focusing on status effect application. I like how this works out as a group of specializations that work together and reward combining a set of talents.

One of my players cast this spell on a chokepoint ahead of them at the start of the scene when the objective of the scenario was to escape across the map.... He did learn from that and used it the second time to teleport himself past trouble when he got surrounded.

Session 1 of Maelstrom play-test. Learned a lot here! Cover and multiple levels of "difficulty" are definitely way too punishing for ranged attacks. Keeping the lowest die of 4d6 feels terrible. Switching to some more static plusses/minuses for some things might be a good idea. Starting with cover.
