I love portraits and SFF illustrations
❤️ Oil and digital
My first Magic card was released! Yay! 🤘

When I’m not at home painting or reading, you’ll probably find me listening to live music or at the theatre 💚

And here is the finished portrait! It’s oil on linen and the model is spe.echka on IG

It was started from life and then completed at home from the photo I took during the live session 😁❤️

I’m happy I spent a bit longer on it, I often plan to work more on my life studies but usually I just forget 😂

Happy with tonight’s painting session! Going on with this portrait I started from life and now I’m detailing from the photo I took of the model.
Still need to work more on the shoulder area (clearly!!) but it should be pretty close to finished now! 💪❤️ maybe tomorrow night?

Hey #portfolioday!! 👋

I’m Francesca, Italian artist based in London. I paint digital SFF illustrations and oil portraits, hopefully these two things will converge at some point! 😂

I’m an artist for MtG, I love SFF books and I would love to paint more cards and more covers in the future ❤️🤞

BOOK COVER ARTISTS

QRP with your book covers 📚

#BookCovers

(Actually, only the first one was planned as a book cover from the start 😅 this made me realise how few book covers I did recently, I miss them!! Not that I’m not busy tho 😂)

Yesterday’s alla prima portrait: once again 3hrs, again zorn palette + raw umber
It’s quite desaturated, but that helps making the reds pop and I like that!!

I think Nate is a wonderful model, don’t you think? Such an interesting face!

Look what I found in my mailbox!!! 😍❤️❤️
It’s finally real, I can’t believe it yet!

The Book of the Ancestor is an amazing trilogy written by Mark Lawrence, and this limited edition is published by Grim Oak Press with art by yours truly ✌️💕

It’s a story that I love so much, I hope I did it justice ❤️

A portrait of Rafa using the Zorn palette + raw umber. I like limited palettes, they sort of force me to make deliberate choices!

I realised too late that the angle of the eye wasn’t quite the same as the model, but it works as a face and you don’t know the model anyway 😂✌️

Another one from my sketchbook: Brigitte Calls Me Baby at Omeara, Aug 20th.

Intimate shows always feel so special, more so when it’s a band you are sure will move to bigger stages soon… I wish them all the success they deserve, but I’m going to treasure these moments so into my sketchbook they go!

Hiii!! I haven’t be so active lately so this is a good excuse to come back a bit more!! 🥰 thank you Julia! 💕

I’m Francesca, Italian artist based in London! Here are some of my stuff released this year: two mtg/final fantasy cards and the cover for Book of the Ancestor ❤️❤️❤️

#the_color_wheel

This trend is lovely, thanks so much to whoever started it ❤️ this has been so fun!!

And also a bit surprising: green is my favourite colour but… I don’t use it much? While I have tons of blue paintings, and blue is fine but nothing to write home about. (Apologies to the fans 🤷‍♀️)

My portrait of Mike, painted from life yesterday evening.
I was a bit worried at the beginning, but the at the end it came together and I’m happy with the final result!

3hrs pose, oil on linen, I don’t know the exact size… a bit smaller than A4?

You know how I said I had fun when I did a sketch of the libertines in acrylics? I was quite surprised because I’ve always hated acrylics. So I tried again with these 15 minutes portraits from life (yesterday at southbank centre, London), and it was still fun! Am I starting to like acrylics??

Most of my sketches are just for me, I don’t have a strong memory and I realised that sketching helps me remember. So they don’t need to be pretty and they don’t need to be shared. But I spent more time than usual on this one, so I felt like posting it!
I don’t use acrylics usually, it was fun!

This week in art (apart from work)… during summer, it’s more difficult to stick to a routine but whenever I am free I am going to life drawing/painting sessions 😂✌️
Someday, I’ll stop working and live out of thin air and just do this ✨✨(and also fun fantasy commissions! Those are ok!)

Second pass on a portrait I started from life, I still need to fix the mouth but the rest is mostly correct. But I find it a bit boring, so next goal is to make it more interesting! 🤔 we’ll see 😁

Don’t take it as a complaint, because at the end it’s our job to work with what the model gives us, but today’s model head kept changing position so I gave up and worked on the body 😂 I think the result may be even better for it, but I won’t deny it was frustrating 😅

Some charcoal sketches of Peter from tonight’s session… I think these were 20 minutes poses
June 25, 2025 at 9:48 PM
It feels unreal to hold them in my hands, finally!! 💚💚💚
June 19, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Today I took a break from painting (on my pc) by painting (on a tote bag) during lunch time. I went for the kind of things I doodle without thinking… I think it shows my manga influences?? 😂
It was fun, but I got really frustrated by how badly the acrylics flow on fabric and how fast it dries! 🗡️🗡️

I may work a bit longer on this once it’s dry… another portrait with the Monday evening group, another stunning sitter (Maggie)!

3hr pose
Oil on canvas, 27x20cm

Some 15 minutes portrait sketches from my sketchbook ✍️

Yesterday, my headphones run out of battery at the very start of the session, it’s so difficult to focus in public spaces without headphones 😭
June 16, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Yesterday evening, I went to a new portrait session! I wanted to make a good first impression so I didn’t use my usual cheap ass canvas, but cut a bit of the fancy one! This is a lot smoother, oil primed… and it takes paint very differently 😂 my brushes were a bit too rough for it, but it’s been fun
June 10, 2025 at 10:50 AM
Pretty happy with today’s study from life!! I had to brave cycling in the rain to get there (and to come back home too 😭) but it was worth it 😅

4hrs pose at Candid Arts Trust in London
Oil on canvas, 40x50cm
Model: Roy

I’m happy I’m keeping this short poses life drawing class as a regular weekly exercise! I’ve being going for some months now 🥰 in addition to the long poses class I’ve been attending on Saturdays (for more than a year)!

Here are some charcoal sketches from yesterday’s session 💕
