There is not a lot of transparency into this, but most estimates put GenAI in the 35-50% of energy usage for AI tools with the other 50-65% for other machine learning. For scale, that puts GenAI at about half the energy use overall as EV cars, though GenAI will likely be more equal in a few years.

The problem is that most people have no idea what "AI" is when they decry or endorse it. If you use predictive text on your phone, you are using AI (it is just a smaller model, but conceptually the same as an LLM). Adaptive cruise control or lane keep assist? AI. Even Waze and Google maps are AI.

Reuters and Associated Press. They rate as some of the most unbiased and fact-based on the Ad Fontes Media Bias Chart each year or of the major outlets.

Other than mutuals I know personally, my feed is really only verified altgov accounts, Reuters, and AP. That has really cut down bad information.

Many state agencies that use federal funding (like ones overseeing Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF) also require it, so people working with them also need to be aware of this scam.

I would hope that it's an AI garden because otherwise that is probably half a million dollars worth of amethyst just to make a path.

If they make under $67,000 a year, they can go to their local IRS-sponsored VITA site and have their taxes done for free by a certified volunteer.

CPB (federal) collects tariffs and companies remit federal withholding to the IRS directly. The most a state could do on "withholding state tax revenue" would be to hold the money it, as an employer, collected from its own employees.

The standard indirect rate for the vast majority of grants from the federal government was only 10% until October 1, 2024, so for many of them 15% is an increase - almost every federal grant program in my department got an increase to 15%. Most private grantors offer lower than 15% -some are even 0.
