Honor what came before you.
Let go of what no longer serves you.
Walk.

The trail will carry you home.
Even if you don’t know where that is yet.

Shikoku isn’t about finding God.
It’s about finding yourself.

And learning how to keep going.
Even when everything hurts.
Even when it rains.
Even when your mind tells you to stop.

You don’t have to be Buddhist.
Many who walk this path are not.

But walk it with humility.
With reverence.
With a willingness to accept whatever the trail gives you —

Food. A coin. A blessing from a stranger.

The robes get dirty.
The body gets tired.

But that’s the point.

Every grain of dust clinging to you is a symbol.
The weight of modern life being shed.
One step at a time.

This is the Henro Michi — a 750-mile pilgrimage around the island of Shikoku.

You visit 88 temples.
You walk for weeks.
You wear white.

And you carry nothing but a stick and your spirit.

I was born in Japan.
Not on Shikoku — but close enough to feel the pull.

So for the last trail in this series, I wanted something that wasn't just scenic.
I wanted something sacred.

Civilization vs Wilderness.
Order vs Chaos.
Then. Now. Tomorrow.

Next: Shikoku, Japan — 88 temples and a sacred path.

Standing on the Wall feels like
Tension.
Pride.
Loss.

What were they keeping out…
or in?

She doesn’t need a map.
The land remembers her.
And she walks with something ancient in her blood.

The tree at Sycamore Gap stood for centuries.
It didn’t fall in battle —
It fell to a prank.

Some walls break from pressure.
Some from neglect.

Rome didn’t build this to defend.
They built it to divide.
Between order and wildness.
Between Us and Them.

Next: Hadrian’s Wall — stone and wind and the echo of Rome.
But for now… stay a little longer.
Let the sea speak.
Let the lemon trees bloom in your memory.

Some hikes make you feel strong.
Cinque Terre makes you feel *human* — small in the best way.
Held by cliffs.
Cradled by color.
Reminded that beauty doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be real.

What to pack for Cinque Terre?
– A good hat.
– Shoes that grip stone.
– A camera you won’t need, because memory will do the rest.
– A heart that’s ready to slow down.

This isn’t a fast hike. It’s a Linger.

You’ll stop for:
🍷 A glass of Sciacchetrà in Corniglia
🧺 Anchovies and tomatoes in Monterosso
🍋 The scent of lemons in Manarola
🌀 A moment in Vernazza that feels eternal
July 1, 2025 at 12:10 PM
The paths are steep.
The stairs are relentless.
And the views? They don’t care if your legs are burning — they’ll steal your breath anyway.

You’ll walk through olive groves, vineyards, lemon trees, and sometimes — just thin air and sea light.

Cinque Terre means *Five Lands* — and here they are:
🏘️ Monterosso
🎨 Vernazza
🌊 Corniglia
🌺 Manarola
🌅 Riomaggiore

Each one different.
Each one unforgettable.
You hike the trail to see them —
but it’s what you *feel* between them that stays with you.

The Camino de Santiago is less a trail and more a prayer with sore feet.

Next: Italy’s Cinque Terre — lemon trees, cliffside villages, and the sea whispering old secrets.

At the end, in Santiago, people cry. Or laugh. Or drop their bag and sit in silence.

The cathedral waits, but the gift wasn’t the destination.

It was every sore mile that got you there.

Packing the Camino?

– Trail runners > boots
– A light pack > a sore back
– Don’t forget a poncho. Spain *will* weep on you.
– Bring one luxury: a journal, a good pen, a worn paperback

And bring room in your soul. The Camino fills it slowly.

🥖 Bodegas in Rioja
🏰 Villages older than your last 5 apartments
🙏 Churches built from stone and silence

Food? Hearty and humble.
Try tortilla española, café con leche, and something sweet in León you can’t pronounce but will crave forever.
