Night Okpik

Maker, amateur photographer, and gardener with Inuit and Canadian roots. I work with beads, paint, wool, and fabric.
Okpik = Owl in Inuktitut
So many things have happened since I bought this fabric in 2013.

I started piecing this quilt together in 2018. After several starts and stops and numerous frustrating setbacks, it's finished! And just in time to be wrapped up and gifted to the person I made it for.

To start my holiday break, I finished this string of big painted beads. I love it!

The wooden bead garland is sold as unpainted decor. I just took it apart, painted, then restrung it.

It took time, but it was relaxing. I'm thinking about making a second one!

No-knead bread can be easy. This recipe is not complicated, uses common ingredients, and is delicious!

The loaf is huge, but you can make 2 loaves or use half the ingredients and make 1 regular-sized loaf - just cut the cook time by 20%.

Sooooooo many squares! At long last I've finished the top for my first (and last!) postage stamp quilt. Lots of work left, but getting to this point is a huge milestone for this project.

What is better than an emotional support chicken? An emotional support chick! Knitting this was a little hard on my hands, but I know the person I made it for will be happy to receive it.

Apple season has started in Ontario. I was at an orchard & picked a variety I've never heard of before - Ginger Gold. Wow, it's so good to eat fresh or baked. It's sweet, juicy, and has good texture.

Here's an apple crisp recipe I recommend: belleofthekitchen.com/apple-crisp/

It's taken 40 hours of prep, but I'm about to do my first stitches on a quilt made up of 6,360 mini squares. Boy, I hope this is all worth it, lol.

My flock of emotional support chickens has grown to three members. Will I knit more? Probably, lol.

I had fun sewing the Plover Pouch - made with 240 tiny pieces cut from scrap fabrics, and a couple vintage buttons on the ends. I learned a lot, which was the whole point.

I'm feeling ambitious. Going to try a sewing project with hundreds of tiny pieces.

If you knit, you need to make the Emotional Support Chicken! This is my second one, and I made it bigger and added some Drops Alpaca throughout to made it super soft. Looking forward to giving it to the person it was made for.

Knitting is therapeutic for me. It's Mental Health Awareness month in Canada, so it's a good time to knit the Emotional Support Chicken. Here's my first one, made with scrap wool.

I'm thrilled with this sweater I just finished knitting. To my total surprise, I was able to start and finish it in about five weeks. Now to pick my next project - I'm leaning towards doing some sewing.

I just finished making these little, adorable, and colourful Inuit-themed peg dolls. They are so bright and happy!

I got bored with knitting the body so finished the arms and sewed in the ends. Only 13cm to knit until it can be blocked and then worn!

Pattern: Peeta by @nclknits.bsky.social, top-down
Wool: Etrofil DK, mustard

Had to share - I use a knitting bowl for almost all my projects and yesterday a kind friend gifted me one she handpainted.

Pattern is Peeta by @nclknits.bsky.social, primary wool is Entrofil in mustard.

I'm at the point where I keep checking the length of this sweater. It's not like it's going to magically grow on its own, lol.

Pattern is Peeta, available on Ravelry.

A good start to the year! I leave the plants in the garden until spring to help the bugs and birds. It makes me so happy to see the birds visiting us in the winter. 🐦
