We struggle with this. We try to find at least SOMETHING good to say about every movie we feature. If we can't, we usually jettison the episode.
But the few negative review/episodes we have put out are really popular, even years later.

It's also worth mentioning that Hollywood really turned its back on Welles and he struggled to make anything after his contract at RKO was up. The stuff he made post-Kane, with RKO, was also no picnic.

the song itself, like if you were to show the movie as a public domain movie in the park or whatever, the person who owned the song might have a claim even if no one had one on the movie itself.
Not for nothing, but trolling copyrights is different from having a GOOD claim.

well, disney died in 66 so HIS personal copyrights should have been up in...1994? (since he died before they changed it from 28 years to 50)...it's kind of a mess.

And why you still have to tread lightly around things in the public domain -a song might be in the public domain, for example, but a film featuring it might have a more recent copyright.

It's kind of byzantine in the US. the issue is the basic principle is life of the author + x years, but in practice, companies like disney spin properties apart into separate, derivative works. That's why "steamboat willie," the short itself, is public domain, but "mickey Mouse" isn't.
