The fact that war exists means that all of humanity has already been defeated. We all have never seen victory.

Both "Barefoot Gen" and "Grave of the Fireflies" are scenes of hell that tell us, "If I had been born in a slightly different time, I would have been in this place."

And our grandparents were certainly there.

There's no way this is fun.

It's not entertainment.

It's a pain that is etched in the hearts of Japanese people.

It's not Japanimation.

It's intense PAIN.

No one else could possibly understand the feelings we had as we stood there in shock in the cinema when Grave of the Fireflies came on after watching Totoro.

Is it Japanimation because it's a Ghibli film? That film is in a class of its own.

I know that my grandmother lost some of her children.
I know why.

There are many Japanese people like that today.

For us Japanese, this is not something that happened long ago.

For us, it's a soul-wrenching, painful piece of work. Not entertaining at all. NEVER.

Ah, so? Our deaths and suffering are entertainment for you?

So the events that tore our grandparents' lives apart are "tragic entertainment" to you?
