Frustrating amazon, not scary.

I've just pulled this much fluff out of my laptops fans. That'll explain why it was running so hot!

I didn't realise this was part of Windows.

Amiga 500 keyboard membrane repaired successfully!

I followed an old video from https://www.youtube.com/@GadgetUK164 and https://www.youtube.com/@NoelsRetroLab. I followed their lead and took my time.

I love how accessible this information is now.

It looks like I've got a keyboard membrane to attempt to repair.

Did some diagnosis of a faulty Amiga mouse today. While the buttons worked the mouse pointer wouldn't move.

After a bit of reverse engineering and investigation it seems the issue with up-down is a bad solder connection on one of the IR LEDs which […]

Fancy new usb-c cable.

Any idea what this connector is called? It's slightly larger than a C13/C15.

Cursed cable.

Another street lithium find (my 3rd so far).

This one only claims 0.6ah capacity, I'll test it soon to see how close it is to that.

With the recent couple of drive failures my main storage is back up and running, It's RAIDz1 with two hot spares.

I'd prefer to be using RAIDz2 with 1 hot spare but switching to that would require destroying and rebuilding the entire pool.

2nd street lithium found!

This 18650 was found on the ground next to a bin in the high street, no vape casing nearby. I'm not sure what it came out of but it was almost fully charged when I checked, It looks like it holds pretty much it's stated capacity.

My UPS appears to intermittently have a strop but I'm failing to figure out what it's upset about (It's not the batteries, they were replaced a few months ago).

Leaving it turned off for a while appears to sort it. It might be time to replace it with something from this century.

I'm attempting to rescue a PC motherboard with a corrupt BIOS. The BIOS chip is an SOIC-8 surface mount package and I'm trying to use a chip clip along with a CH341 programmer. My main issue is getting the clip to attach and then stay on the chip. It […]

Electronics youtubers have often mentioned you can harvest rechargeable batteries from discarded single use vapes. It sometimes sounds like they're all over the floor and easy to find. I had not see a discarded vape until yesterday when I found my […]

I've had an SSD fail under warranty so I posted it back to the manufacturer. I'm posting from the UK to the Netherlands and my package has been stuck in customs for two and a half weeks.

I presume this is another "benefit" of brexit :(

Using a server HBA in a regular PC case requires some cooling mods. Zip tying a fan on the heat sync seems to do the trick.

Ooh, free electricity. I'll schedule all my things to charge :D

At least this failure mode is working as intended and I have an opportunity to remove the faulty drive and restore resilience.

Shame I don't have a cold spare on hand, amazon next day delivery will have to do though.

Oops, FB marketplace isn't helping me declutter but the opposite.

This might become a new file server (but using the drives from the old one).
