Family man, keen (mostly ineffective) angler, Peterborough United sufferer, old prog-rocker, who loves nature, alive and well. Retired. Dreaming of France.

Today's spot on the river.

We visited my Gt Gt Uncle Albert's grave this summer. He left England for a life in Canada, only to return and die because of the aspirations of the rich and powerful.

His brother, John William, died on the first day of the Somme. His body hasn't been recovered.

So many lives.

I've asked some questions of our Town Council because of this. A massive bespoke poppy that, I'm betting, not a penny has gone to the RBL to display.

I'm also sick of knotted postbox covers.

Just as I was leaving the river this evening, after a mostly wildlife free evening, I was stood on the bank talking to a fellow angler when he asked "Can I take you picture?"

Odd, butI said OK.

This is the picture. I'm best in silhouette.

Wildlife Photography of the Year. Application no.2.

The Otter.

In the folded reeds across the river is an otter, eating her catch.

You know those really modern phones with superb cameras?

I don't have one.

There's always this solution.

Please note, this was a Michael Dobbs, so no harm done.

Cambridgeshire Live's take away 24 hours on:

This is from Facebook. The comments are a stream of anti-Muslim rhetoric. Another race baiting click bait on-line rag.

I dread to think of the comment Ben Obese-Jecty received to his X post. Some of them will be from people who hate him for the colour of his skin. Why do black Tories put up with it?

My bid for Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

Before taking the picture the tree right in front of my was full of long-tailed tits, blue tits and a very super little goldcrest.

I didn't pick the phone up until they'd gone because I didn't want to spook them.

I promise. They were gorgeous.

I've cooked a delicious fish pie, and the cat isn't hassling me at all.

Not one bit.

Strange animal.

Ramsey Town Council's office this evening.

Remembrance is a time of mindfulness for those who paid the ultimate price. A time to remember the peace they won.

This, however, is grotesque. It makes me angry. They've missed the point.

Down by the river, Autumn is trying to hang on.

I find myself increasingly angry about the number of blue creatures on the adverts.

Dear Food & Wine website.

You might want to consider checking with Google about their advertising algorithm.

This ad, in tge middle of a recipe for mushroom risotto, isn't doing you and favours.

Under the banner of Environmentalism, this account is expressing some seriously racist / anti-islamic views.

Watch out.

My I add the river Nene from yesterday?

As the world rolls on, I'm here, by the river, watching.

I put this comment on the North West Cambs Conservatives post, and the Ely and East Cambs Conservatives "Liked" it!

They do sarcasm, not.

Loving the new Tory poster. Real Discipline? Unless you're Robert Jenrick and are actively campaigning to remove the leader*.

Tilly is not impressed.

I shall stop singing along to Klone.
