In the exhibition ‘From the East to the East’, we seek to valorise the experience of migration by emphasising the sense of pride in the knowledge that comes from it, making ‘being in between’ a condition, not an exception, and the figure of the migrant (person on the move) a universal point of refer

as when, while doing care work abroad, one thinks of the welfare of the family one has left behind; while building a house for someone else, one dreams of that of one's own.... The experience of the migrant is often seen as a temporary condition, a makeshift, to be followed by a time of stability

The sense of alienation in the country to which one emigrates, as well as that associated with returning to one's place of birth, create what I call the ‘migratory condition’, which is characterised by ‘being in between’, in two or more places at once,

migratory culture, which is created both by those living in diasporas and those who remain in their places of birth. This is done through the transmission of knowledge related to departure: networks of contacts, addresses, behavioural repertoires, as well as outlining life horizons.
