Just got the new 5th Batch Saburomaru in. A 50ppm peated whisky with Highland malt from Crisp Maltings. Flavour profile is like that of Highland Park. But more interesting in my opinion. This batch is called: IV The Emperor. This is the 5th Batch as #1 was called 0. Hunt down Saburomaru if you can!

Trying some German single malt cask samples this Christmas.
Some amazing barrels to look forward to.

The importer for Austria reached out to me because apparently Komagatake does not sell there. They had a huge surplus of their single cask and offered me to buy bottles for 1/3 of retail. Free shipping on over 12. So I asked some friends and now received 51 bottles.

I recently managed to get my hands on the Second release in the Art of Tsunuki series.
This is a bourbon barrel version while the first release was a sherry cask release.

This small batch Nagahama single malt was aged in ex red and white Mont Perrat wine from France. They experimented first with a world blended malt under their Amahagan world blended malt.
They liked it enough to finish a batch of their single malt in these barrels. Looking forward to try this soon.

Really nice looking single cask Nagahama from a bourbon barrel for the Taiwan market. Love the little band around the neck.

Reviewing this soon.

Apparently St.Killian sells well in Japan. Sold out in pre-sale.

Mac busted some new Japanese whisky myths. But be careful with the Togouchi bought in Europe.
They should all 3 have no age statement and say 100% Japanese on the box. A lot of old Scotch aged in Japan is still in circulation here under the brand name.

Gravedigger Exhumation II.
By St.Kilian
80ppm peat, 50.8% ABV. Bourbon barrels left buried in German woods, exhumed and bottled. Nose damp mulch, sooty peat. Sweet brown sugar.
Mouth: first just peat, wet leaves, mulch, earthy tones but mixed perfectly with the sweet tones. A cracker of a dram.

Tasting notes: nose, juice box apple juice, honey, boiled candy swiss herb candy. Palate starts with the juice box but then more Jonagold, apfel Schorle, herbal candy honey, barley. Finish long and sweet. Love this experimental Apple Wine cask from St. kilian.

This past summer I also visited Nahahama Roman Beer brewpub and distillery. It's a restaurant, brewery and distillery in one. Also did a hand filled there. It's in a nice old fashioned Japanese village.

This past Summer I also visited Komagatake distillery in Nagano. No pictures of the stills as I have been there before. Just came to say hi to my friends there and drink stuff.

Last summer I visited Saburomaru distillery in Toyama, Japan.
They are a peated whisky only producer that import their malted barley from the UK, mostly, them mill, mash and distill it in Japan on stills made out of copper and tin. Their stills are also cast instead of hammered so more efficient.

Visited the St. Kilian Distillery in Rüdenau, Germany yesterday.
Some of their warehouses are old NATO bunkers. #whisky #distiolery
