"He wasn't even a person in their eyes anymore but a shiny new toy they all wanted a turn with. Hart rolled his eyes at the entire premise. A Chosen One, Godtouched, whatever you wanted to call someone anointed by one god or another, called to help people. It was a fairytale that people told themselves to keep hope alive in desperate situations and to lull their children to sleep after a nightmare. Sure, Godtouched were real enough but they weren't like that. They were just people. And real people weren't selfless like that; real people were cruel and often buried far too deep in their own self-interest to so much as see suffering around them."

“Good morning, Sunshine. What would you like for breakfast?” “Pastries.” He answered without thinking. His body and mind still felt sluggish and heavy; his uncooperative tongue leaning more heavily into its lilting Karthan accent. “Like Cuernos?” Sol tilted his head to the side and smiled when Hart finally looked up. His untied black hair spilled over his shoulder like a curtain. It glowed with warm undertones in the morning light. “What are those?” “Cuernos are flaky and sweet.” He started motioning vaguely with his hands as he talked. “They're shaped like a bull's horns —Wait, you're from the city— they're shaped like the moon.” “Gods. I've seen a cow before!”

I love Tomi. No hesitation, just steps up to the plate and slaps him.
Anyway, the rough draft is still rough drafting. Oof.
His eyes looked a little more lucid as he looked over to the others. “War- Warren. Please hit me.” “What?” Jethro's voice rose in pitch. “No? These hands are made for picking locks, not getting into fistfights!” Tomi, on the other hand, had no such objections and slapped him across the face as hard as they could.

Chapter 5 - Rhododendron
'He walked three or four blocks, until he was sure neither more assassins or the wannabe heroes would pop out of the shadows at him again. He stopped and allowed himself to sag against the wall of a darkened building nearby with a groan, cradling the package of meat to his aching chest. “Shit. That could have been so much worse. Gods preserve me from overconfident idiots.” He grumbled to himself as he attempted to shake the tingling sensations out of one hand before switching to the other. “My name is Hart now. He isn't looking for Hart. He doesn't know Hart.” He whispered to himself between deep, steady breaths. “They didn't see me well enough so they don't have any information to give him. I'm still safe. My name is Hart. I'm safe.”'

From Chapter Three - Coreopsis
'"You’re staring. You can call me Sol, if you want." His lips curved into an easy smile. "I didn't know the Gifted's eyes glowed in the dark." Hart shuddered at the word Gifted and pushed himself away from the wall to make his way back out of the opening. "Don't call it that." His voice came out as a whisper, soft and strained to his own ears. "It's not a gift. And they don't  glow, it's reflected light." "I'm sorry. What else do you call it?" Sol followed as he started walking the opposite direction from their pursuers. "A disease, a curse, vampirism. Literally anything else." "I can do that." Sol jogged a little to get ahead of him and face him directly. "So what's your name? How long have you had vampirism? Do you like flowers?" "That's ‘none of your business’ for all three. Congratulations." Hart growled as he stepped around him and kept walking. “Leave me alone.” He was attractive but damn, he was fucking annoying. Hart faltered and tried his best not to bite through his own tongue. Attractive.'

Hart.exe has stopped working.
Hart blinked down at their hands still brushing against each other on the brown paper then back at his face. He had smooth, reddish-brown skin, a comfortable face and a sharply angled nose with a delicate ring of gold dangling from its septum. He casually leaned far too close into Hart's personal space and, worst of all, he smelled really nice. His dark brown eyes flicked back and forth between Hart's. "You aren't saying anything. Do you have a concussion? Can you understand what I'm saying? Or is my accent just that bad?" It was softer than Kitty's drawling one, only lingering in the vowels and S's. The way concern twisted up his face snapped Hart out of his apparent stupor. He stepped back, yanking his hand away as heat started rising to his cheeks. "Fine! I'm fine." Hart braced his hands on either side of the other man, effectively caging him. He had to look up a little to meet Hart's eyes, his own eyes wide, lips parted slightly. His hair hung in a thick ponytail of jet black waves. A few loose strands curled close to his collarbone and neck, where Hart could see his carotid throbbing if he stared too hard. Hart swallowed heavily and tore his eyes away from the unblemished skin to stare at the wall just behind his head. The warmth of a living body this close was unfamiliar, the smell of his blood pumping just under his skin, almost unbearable. His warm breath tickled on Hart's face as they stood close in the silence as they listened to the assassins’ footsteps pass by and fade into the distance. As hard as he tried, there was nowhere to look in the dim light of their little nook except his face.
