(I'm also in the steering group, as both a representative of an organisation engaging in this world, and as someone who engages with CST in my academic work. Maria and I potentially represent the lefter side of the community, and I find being a part of it genuinely enriching and broadening)

It's also quite a broad organisation even within these parameters, so offers a great insight into the range of approaches you can find in contemporary 'left Catholicism' (whatever that term is worth).

Probably the best example of the CCSTP's work out there is Anna Rowland's report with @jrsuk.bsky.social about immigration detention. It's an expose that only grows more vital with time, as well as a profound meditation on the spirituality of those trapped in detention. www.jrsuk.net/for-our-welf...

On the other hand an argument to the effect that being a transphobe means you should be a homophobe too might actually speak in a good way to TERF sympathising catholics who see themselves as progressive bc they aren't obviously homophobic. That's such a thing in the UK

It's more likely to help homophobic catholics feel better about it by enabling them to see their beliefs as the fullest expression of a kind of feminism, a la the whole New Feminism thing. It may also have influence in the Catholic healthcare world, which is kinda significant in a US context.

It's also the official journal of the Catholic Medical Association, who have an outsized voice in Catholic bioethics and healthcare policy in the US

That's a fairly prominent catholic bioethics journal. It's Q2 on scimago despite being pretty niche, if that gives you any sense of it.

What journal is this? Just trying to get a sense of how relevant it is

It's deeply iterating

Seriously though, it's so obvious how these two different political themes feed into one another (attacking trans ppl is an attack on femininity & queerness that feeds into the machismo of blowing up boats in foreign waters). Anyone who wants to embrace one but not the other (*ahem*) is an idiot
