Examining the intersections of deliberative democracy, craft gin, and Taylor Swift.
Civil-society-led climate assemblies keep deliberative democracy sharp. Make demands, not just recommendations. Deliberative democracy isn’t about advising power. I’s about challenging it.

Global South academics are experts on the topics being investigated. How many opportunities for mutual growth have been lost if that expertise was more regularly acknowledged?

Who gets to do research where matters. Post-colonial knowledge creation challenges persistent hierarchies. It's time the Global North listened and learned. The Global South isn't just catching up, it's leading. Knowledge should flow in all directions.

Marjan Ehsassi's book on citizens' assemblies uses the concept of effervescence—that emotional charge you get in collective moments.

What kills it? Not false hope that recommendations will be implemented but weak follow-up.

A toast to the human rights lawyers, witnesses, and activists who ensured the butcher faces justice. We've arrested presidents before—the real challenge is ensuring they never return. The fight isn’t over.

It is precisely the Global Majority’s aversion to techno-legal fixes that gives rise to the creativity of its civil society. The world should take note.

Epistemic injustice is also evident in the way the Global South is sometimes exoticized by deliberative democracy research. How can we decolonize deliberative democracy?
