I would just leave it at gothic horror. I think that description brings works like Rebecca and Jane Eyre to mind, and is self explanatory. Body horror would indicate gore. Querying is hard enough without having an agent not read your pages because they don't like "slow-burn".

A rabbit hole I have been down. I think The Social Graces was my favorite novel. The Vanderbilt rabbit hole led to a gilded era NYC rabbit hole for me. (Pretty deep) Adjacent to the Vanderbilt's are two of my favorite non-fiction: The Gilded Edge and The Scandalous Hamiltons.
