A painter's trick for rejiggering a painting can involve taking a step back and reworking the values and composition from a black and white printout

Every day is earth day. Issue #27 of 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏 arrived at my doorstep yesterday. Full of stories, reflections, poetry, and art, ‘ a collection revolving around bodies, human and creaturely, plant and mineral, in an era of planetary breakdown.’ My painting entitled ‘Grandfather’ is included.

Progress shots from a model on Zoom. I treat these sessions as exercises in seeing how well I can do in a time frame without additional references. I truly love cultivating and maintaining a style. *Maintaining* sounds antithetical to being creative but I refer to maintenance of the craft.
