Well, the geraniums are literally busting out all over, and the snapdragon is snapping. When did the November climate get so weird?

For the afternoon crew:
OTD in 680 CE Hild of Whitby died. Every year I celebrate. This year by a) showing off my fabulous, specially commissioned silver snakestone lapel pin, and b) my imagined version of her grave marker (or maybe pillow stone).

And just for them I think I'll change my profile pic to a Lindisfarne Gospels-inspired image of a cat that's eaten a skein of wool and is singing, 🎶 Kiss My Fuzzy Fundament 🎶

On this cold glittering November morning our fuchsia burns so bright it practically *hisses*...

Ever get the feeling that you published a book—SLOW RIVER—in the wrong time/universe? A writer dreams of her book finding the right audience—and here they are! Just bad timing. The publisher will be reissuing it 2026/2027, though, so maybe it will find its readers this time.

They really do look great all lined up!

For Çaturday, a kitty-in-the round following the Lindisfarne Gospels style (Luke Incipit, with liberties), a sort of kitty triskele (ditto, only more so), and how I imagine a Pict might have carved our beastie, Charlie Bean, on one of his best-behaved days—masquerading as Saint Bean.

OMG!!! The vine we planted 5 years ago (6?!) has finally—finally! right at the end of summer—flowered for the first time! An omen: summer 2026 is going to be brilliant and beautiful ✨

Well, the prissy little petunias might have got themselves Raptured but the begonia and geranium, the jasmine and more are still their blooming heathen selves, even as autumn runs its cool fingers through their leaves.

As autumn begins, George, International Cat of Mystery, offers his sitrep: together with asset, Tabby Pimpernel, endeavouring to keep neighbourhood clear of infiltrators. Charlie uncooperative. Flowers still drawing attention of aerial insurgents and small drones

Back to his old, steal-the-wheelchair tricks, sigh. 😻♿️

The emperor’s shaved self. We let him out for a couple of hours, and, though he made pro forma protests when we brought him in, I think he was glad to rest. He’s definitely healed but not quite—yet—fit.

✨Just felt like posting a picture of a happy hedgehog gazing at the stars and wondering what’s out there… ⭐️

Exhausted after throwing so many staff to the wolves, the emperor sleeps.

Charlie Bean wears his imperial purple surgical suit well. As an Early Medieval Latin version of 'Emperor Charles' might be CAROLUS IMPERATOR he is henceforth (temporarily) Charlie Imp. Here, clearly, the emperor contemplates sending his two-legged staff to the arena to face wild dogs.

Well, although our doughty wounded warrior managed somehow to get rid of a stitch or three despite his little suit, the vet says, nope the other stitches won’t be ready to come out for another 2-6(!) days. HE. IS. NOT. HAPPY.

Charlie, modeling his post surgical hippy drag—he’d prefer the Armani look to purple tie-dye but they don’t make surgical suits that stylish

The cat who loved hot jazz.

Or really anything that keeps that receiver warm 🎶 And anything that blocks the sound of his brother yowling as we feed the poor stitched back together beast antibiotics and pain meds. Sigh.

Fisher of Stars—I’m playing with a new set of graphics while I research the Iberian peninsula of the early sixth century. (No, they’re not connected—doodling helps me daydream while disparate bits of new and old info meet and recombine in my back brain to make story…)

Where perhaps he may meet Charlie Bean musing amid the stars before he comes back down to our plane for lunch
