A wave from Brussels, my diplomatic home for nearly three years, where everyone keeps asking me why Britain would want to commit another act of self-harm by withdrawing from the ECHR. It's viewed so differently here.

Moving people from a hotel in the city centre to a military base, also in the city centre is likely to achieve... Nothing.

It keeps getting worse for the HMP Chelmsford authorities.

Kebatu went back there four or five times and attempted to hand himself in, knowing he would be deported. The authorities sent him away, telling him he had been released.

Southwark Cathedral: you were magical, I was sleep-deprived. Thanks to the lovely 109 of you, bar the one guy who stood up to announce that everyone should be wearing St George's flags across their backs. I hope I disagreed agreeably. 🧡

Alaa is free! I interviewed his sister @mon.asosh in October 2022 as she staged a peaceful protest outside the Foreign Office. She, her mother Laila, sister @sanaaseif and cousin @orhamilton feared they may never see him again, but they remained strong and defiant, calling for his release. Mabrouk!

Books I read while writing mine. If you're interested in small boats, migration, refugees, UK immigration and asylum, I'd recommend all of these. Anything to add?

Keir Starmer's silence on immigration is allowing Farage to seize the narrative - and it reeks of the desperation to cling on to power.

There's always a tweet. This from 2018, when Yvette Cooper still had a backbone.

This video doing the rounds again today. What Farage is promising still impossible.

Late summer days: the end of one thing, the beginning of another. Back at my desk next week. Change, change, always change.

Don't listen to Farage; listen to the country's brightest legal minds, who actually know what they're talking about.
