Agree with others here, I’d use the new syntax with a note for older browsers.
These things will be used as reference material in the future and we want to encourage people to pick up new syntax.

Have you tried playing duck duck goose with them? I bet you’d win 🤣

@leerob.com could you share more of the reasons behind not allowing this pls?

Just not being able to use a simple link tag to import a global/external stylesheet is painful.
We don’t want to have to import it into our app, as that might mean versioning etc. Global CSS should be able to be evergreen across micro front ends.

+💯
It might well be the opinionated move too far for me.

Great video, thanks Wes!

I’d go one step further and use both opacity and visibility, as then you’re able to transition between the two for a nice fade effect.

Also, small perf hack, if you go from opacity: 0.001 -> 1 instead of 0 ->1, it can use GPU to render. (I stole that from GSAP years ago)

Is it waterproof?
I’ve just had to go for a roll top sack thing because I need to protect the laptop from the British weather. Missing the multiple pockets already though 😖

Totally agree with this

Agree, it’s close enough to the X app to not notice.
The only pain point for me is BS keeps restarting so I lose my last scroll position, which X is great at keeping.

I’ve only recently found your stuff online, but it’s personally given me a newfound zest for building cool things again, after more than 20yrs of being a developer.
So thank you Jhey. You have to do you, and when it becomes a chore/job rather than just fun, it’s a good time to reflect on time/value

Have you checked out FlashList? Honestly not used it, but they claim to be significantly more performant than FlatList with pretty much the same API.

What is the best React Native list component?
Lists are everywhere in React Native, but you’ve got to be careful which package you select if you don’t want to ruin your performance.

Compared to Twitter, this app restarts a lot more frequently back to splash. Part of the reason I went to Twitter in the first place was because it saves my scroll position and does lose the articles/tweets I was reading previously. If I want new content I can scroll up/hit the jump button.

The main reason I like Twitter is when I come back to it, my scroll position is saved and I can carry on reading. When I want to read fresh tweets, I just scroll up.
Here, it seems that the app restarts waaayy too frequently and I don’t get that benefit. 🙈
