I know the feeling, I completely lack space to build out *anything* currently and hate having my trains sitting boxed up... Once I do have space I've been playing with a double layer single line in AnyRail with staging on the lower level and scenery up top inspired by the Chuo west line in Nagano:

I’d argue even with diesel taking over from steam at least mainline electrification could/should have been more widespread. Milwaukee Road proved that it was possible and viable even in remote and challenging terrain
