I died for Beauty - but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining Room -

He questioned softly "Why I failed"?
"For Beauty", I replied -
"And I - for Truth - Themself are One -
We Brethren are", He said - 1/2

Having, and defending, and celebrating, instead of receiving, submitting to, and praying, the Bible masks an enormous amount of non-reading. -Eugene Peterson-

Man am I grown, a man's work must I do.
Follow the deer? follow the Christ, the King,
Live pure, speak true, right wrong, follow the King–
Else, wherefore born?

All the flowers of the spring
Meet to perfume our burying;
These have but their growing prime,
And man does flourish but his time.
Survey our progress from our birth—
We are set, we grow, we turn to earth. 1/2

Happy the man, whose wish and care
A few paternal acres bound,
Content to breathe his native air
In his own ground.

People hear us pray in worship, they listen to us preach and teach from the Scriptures, they notice when we are listening to them in a conversation, but they can never know if we are attending to God in any of this. 1/3

Sometimes a summer meal is just black-eyed peas and cornbread. And truth be told, there’s not much better.

Religious people obey God to get things. Gospel people obey God to get God — to resemble him, to know him, to delight him. We do, out of love. -Tim Keller-

What would the world be, once bereft Of wet and wildness? Let them be left, O let them be left, wildness and wet, Long live the weeds and the wildness yet.

I say more: the just man justices;
Keeps grace: that keeps all his goings graces;
Acts in God's eye what in God's eye he is —
Christ — for Christ plays in ten thousand places,
Lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not his
To the Father through the features of men's faces.

He has a sin of mine, he its near brother,
Knowing them well I can but see the fall.
This fault in one I found, that in another:
And so, though each have one while I have all,
No better serves me now, save best ; no other,
Save Christ: to Christ I look, on Christ I call. -Gerard Manley Hopkins-

It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod; 1/

Ordinary time is not what biblical people endure or put up with or hurry through as we wait around for the end time and its rocket lunch into eternity. It is a gift through which we participate in the present and daily work of God… 1/

Scripture is not an inert object to be studied, as if reading the Bible were an "I-It" relation. It is rather a means for encountering the living God, "the primary means by which God presents himself to us.” 1/2
