Into XR since 2016, wearable tech since 2012, business/media since 2000, drums since 1995, martial arts since 1994. Project managing MODDA Sörmland, a Swedish regional initiative to implement experiential learning through XR to promote STEM in grades 1-6.
When prompted by Michael Björn from @ericsson Consumer Lab just the other day, on what's needed next for the road to mainstream XR adoption. HUD smartglasses - glad to see Google was listening, now awaiting Meta's move...

Has anyone tried the new option in casting? When clicking "PC" it prompts to connect with Link. Looks like maybe casting 2.0 moved to users and not just Quest Developer Hub pros.

This guy is so annoying. Like, do you want me to stay out of your business or not (as indicated by you blocking/silencing me after asking honest questions)?

Please take your fake headset somewhere else and put in SOME effort at curating your community.

Zuck - the definition of "putting your money where your mouth is". So many have been tried to will him into switching course. With Orion, he showed those men of will what will really is.

Who would have thought?

A long-awaited avatar refresh is coming to Quest/Horizon avatars. Looks promising.
January 28, 2025 at 5:15 PM
I tried this to "export" older chatgpt dialogues to the new o1 model. Worked fine.
January 28, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Yeah I have a better idea @RealityLabs maybe you can just use the numerous photos you already have of my face and auto-generate an avatar that actually looks like me.
January 28, 2025 at 5:20 PM
This is also new - jump directly into Super Rumble from the mobile app. What other mobile-optimized worlds are there, Horizon veterans?
January 28, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Global rollout for Horizon Worlds, at long last? Now available in Sweden and Australia, at least. What about for you users in other markets where it was previously not available?
January 28, 2025 at 5:20 PM
This is nice. It should also have always been like this.
January 28, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Really exciting to see Spatial Personas on AVP - it looks amazing! Here's a throwback to Oculus Connect 2019 - this was their ambition for virtual co-presence then.

Meta are OK to give away future revenue on 2D apps to Google (at least until they build their own 2D app ecosystem), says @boztank.

That should include store commission on "boosts"/ad IAP on Fb mobile app. But for iOS Meta are raising those prices:...
January 28, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Wouldn't it be pretty cool if the 2nd gen Meta/Ray-Ban glasses had two cameras like the first one did, now that "spatial video" is becoming a thing?

(And hey likewise - eye-tracking in Qyest 2 after having it in Quest Pro...)

This $500 hoodie is the biggest competitor to Quest 3. We thought people would go "can't afford Apple Vision Pro, but yeah this other headset might be it at 1/7th the cost".

Nah. This hoodie is it.

Confirmed VR games for Apple Vision Pro:
- @recroom
- @DemeoGame
- @FruitNinja
- What The Golf?
- Game Room (What's this, haven't heard of before?)

Anyone know any more examples?

Btw here's an awkward workaround for not having to say "VR games".

Thx @SideQuestVR for a great indie showcase - have a bunch of fun new stuff to try out now :)

This is interesting.

Surprising to most, Quest 2 arrived 18 months after the first gen. Doubling down on everything - including price (which meant trade-offs in comfort, single-display, etc).
Covid and big developer support were big factors in driving sales in the holiday season of '21.
January 28, 2025 at 6:12 PM
... so, Quest won. Finally a feature-complete VR experience in a standalone, wireless format. Clearly this was the direction the market wanted them to go.

It had been in development for a long time though, so the comparatively weak SOC (a last-gen SD 835) was a big constraint...

Rift S was absolutely one of the two simultaneously released Oculus headsets in 2019. A slight Rift upgrade/sidegrade but going for inside-out tracking.

But, PCVR couldn't prove significant hardware sales, while software of course was in a losing battle against Steam.
January 28, 2025 at 6:02 PM
Next, they simply took what worked from Gear VR and made it standalone with Oculus Go. The price was right! It even attracted some B2B use cases, such as Walmart. Sadly, 3DoF tracking was still simply not an alluring enough proposition, and this was when Fb realized that.
January 28, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Rift CV1 was a bit higher in utility - but remember that the initial release was WITHOUT the 6DoF/Touch controllers. They shipped it with an Xbox gamepad and focused solely on games (well, and "immersive media", mostly the same 360 content as Gear VR).
January 28, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Before Gear VR there were of course the dev kits/"pioneer edition" headsets, but this was the first consumer VR release. (Google Cardboard came the year before)

- Not very high in utility, especially before they included a 3DoF controller.
- Mobile was a win. 3DoF not so much.
