i would suggest it is more about a geographic point from which a city more or less was originally developed and then expands from. doesn't do much for the basketball metaphor but i do think it generally applies to cities.

Yeah….I’ll truly never understand why he signed that extension. But I thank my lucky stars that he did. And it was his call. And ultimately, there is no guarantee of more success elsewhere (maybe LA excluded) so I guess at least he’s played mostly meaningful baseball in his time in Cleveland.
