They are only as strong as the checks and balances that keep them in place. If the UK leaves the ECHR those are substantially weakened. The fourth estate isn’t going to take up the slack.

To Slovenia. The other options are staying in Ljubljana, which means you can still visit Bohinj and Bled and one of the caves as day trips, or staying in the countryside for five days and then a couple of days in Ljubljana. I can give you some recommendations.

Is heaving most of the year because it’s not that big. Bohinj is more dramatic and larger and it always feels like you can find some space. The Soča Valley also has some fine walks and there’s a lot of WWI history. I really like Kobarid and it has a fantastic museum. These are both a good intro

Having given it some thought I would suggest the following. If you want a week in the countryside with access to some great walks/hikes I would choose either near Lake Bohinj or the Soča Valley. The first option gives you access to the Julian Alps. Lake Bled is nearby and is picture postcard, but

Yes!!! It depends what you want to do. If you want to stay in two places I would suggest Ljubljana and either Bohinj or the Soča valley. Though you could also go to the Logar valley instead. Let me know what you want to do/see/experience and I can refine this for you.

What’s even more shocking is that No 10 are saying that Starmer believes she won’t last until the next election. He really needs someone to tell him how this politicking works. You don’t give your enemies ammo and you don’t start bowing to pressure, real or imagined, that is amplified by the right.

Definitely an argument for abolishing the Electoral College as that is a double advantage to smaller states.

I hope the Lib Dems can do this.

You certainly wouldn’t get that impression from X but I expect it’s true.

It seems that in the US and UK the moderate right have given up the ghost and ceded everything to the hard right.

I can’t see one either. Geographically that would mean Morocco would be more likely to join.

I really like it here. I moved here from Brighton at the end of 2020. It’s small, but there’s always something going on. I love having the mountains on my doorstep and I’m hoping Spurs will play Olimpija in the near future. There are things I miss about Brighton, but I come back three times a year.

It’s only just over 2 hours from Ljubljana and I’ve only visited it once since I moved here 4 years ago. I must go back. One of the joys is just getting lost in its maze.

Not that it’s any faster, but they are putting the Trieste-Villa Opicina tram back in service. I wonder if the fastest option would be to extend the track between Gorizia-Nova Gorica, if such a feat is viable.
