I’ve been saying “Baby Billy’s Bible Bonkers” multiple times a day since the first episode of the new season of Gemstones… I’m in awe of that writers room.

Jennifer Lame’s editing in Oppenheimer is sublime. There is a montage within the first 20 minutes that, in combination with Ludwig Göransson’s score, had me truly levitating in the theater. Between Oppenheimer and Tenet, the Lame/Nolan partnership is producing his best work.

It’s so exciting to see mass audiences excited about going to the movies, and to see how many people—not all, but plenty—are directly, enthusiastically responding to the promise of new work from artists like Christopher Nolan and Greta Gerwig, studio filmmakers with distinctive voices and styles.

2023 was shaping up to be a rather rough year for film, but thankfully it feels like June and July are indicating that we might just be okay. Past Lives, Asteroid City, Mission: Impossible, Barbie, Oppenheimer… all very great movies!!
