May I remind you that the bill comfortably passed its second reading yesterday? And the only people I see fantasising about the state wanting to murder all disabled people are on here.
The people getting angry here are the ones who are out of step.

Those safeguards CAN be put in before the bill is passed - that’s how legislation works.
The bill has only had a second reading so far.

OK, I did say we show less compassion to humans than we do to pets. That is wrong. Humans deserve compassion too.
November 30, 2024 at 11:58 AM
I have - after my cat had a stroke. We held her and she died instantly. I have frequently said since that that is how I would like to go!
Why do you ask?
November 30, 2024 at 11:57 AM
I did not compare people to pets. I said we show more compassion to them than we do to people.
And I have engaged with those concerns. The status of disabled people under the bill is exactly the same as anyone else. Except they are more strongly protected.
November 30, 2024 at 11:53 AM
It’s nothing to do with the state!!
November 30, 2024 at 11:49 AM
Thank you. Good to know someone is seeing some sense in all this.
November 30, 2024 at 11:48 AM
Anyone who gave that reason would fall foul of the law and their request would be refused.
November 30, 2024 at 11:08 AM
And despite what DR UK say, this is nothing to do with the government. It was a free vote on a private member’s bill.
You say you support the principle. How would you make the bill better?
November 30, 2024 at 11:05 AM
If disabled people receive worse healthcare, that is obviously unacceptable.
But I genuinely don’t see the connection with this bill. Patients have to be in the last six months of life, make a decision free of coercion, and administer the drug themselves.
More safeguards can be added if necessary.
November 30, 2024 at 11:02 AM
Of course not. But they have nothing to do with this. It’s not their bill and they are not the medical professionals or judges who will be involved in decision-making.
November 30, 2024 at 10:52 AM
Nobody has been patient with me. But this permits no doubt about what constitutes a terminal illness.

November 30, 2024 at 8:08 AM
So you admit you are talking nonsense? There is NOTHING in the bill that suggests disabled people (unless they are in the last days of a terminal illness, like anyone else) is involved in any way.
November 29, 2024 at 11:30 PM
Where do I mention people with disabilities in that? I’m talking about patients in the last weeks of a terminal illness.
And I have now read the bill, which SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDES physical disability as a condition that allows a person to ask to end their life.
November 29, 2024 at 11:20 PM
What did I say about disabled people? Please, tell me?
November 29, 2024 at 10:18 PM
Who dehumanises those with terminal illnesses?
November 29, 2024 at 9:13 PM
OK, bang to rights… this is where I admit I haven’t read the bill (more interested at this stage in the principle)!
Perhaps you could quote me what it says about disabled people. You might be the one person today who can convince me.
November 29, 2024 at 8:12 PM
You mean when I suggested we cared more for pets than we do for people (I never said anything about people with disabilities - this is all about people in agony in the last days of their lives)?
Don’t you believe humans deserve as much kindness as cats and dogs?
November 29, 2024 at 6:43 PM
Maybe you are right. Today has been bloody awful, under constant attack from people who seem to get a kick out of being abusive!
November 29, 2024 at 6:40 PM
Exactly, I make a perfectly sensible and polite post - and some people seem to think I am a cunt who deserves to die soon!
That’s what I am referring to. What is the matter with these people?
November 29, 2024 at 6:35 PM
Of course it CAN be dangerous - if life and death decisions are put in the hands of idiots on social media! Though if this person is a geriatric consultant, I might be worried.
November 29, 2024 at 5:33 PM
That’s a disgusting post.
November 29, 2024 at 5:30 PM
I heard people referencing Canada several times during the part of the debate I listened to. We don’t have to copy bad practice.
