Wayman Tisdale, a Tulsa native, made his mark as both an NBA star and a celebrated jazz bassist. The Gap Band, also from Tulsa, helped define funk and R&B, taking their name from Greenwood, Archer, and Pine—streets central to the historic Greenwood District. Aretha Franklin, the "Queen of Soul," also shares a musical connection with Leon Russell, whose mural sits just across the street. The two collaborated during their legendary careers, making these murals a fitting tribute to Tulsa’s deep musical roots.
