Another notable thing about the study, and something I actually think is kind of a flaw with it, is that the option of “gender diverse” was only available in the follow-up; when recruited, they only had the option of “boy” or ”girl”, meaning that this rate of change is probably smaller than sugested

The main thing this survey found was that gender diversity was more common than previously expected, likely because they asked the kids themselves rather than the parents, likely because parents are more likely to interpret gender diversity as ”trans” or “not trans.” Kinda like @economist.com did!

Should be noted that the “one in five trans people change their mind” figure touted by this article counts “went from trans to gender diverse” as if it were “went from trans to cis.” If you want the number of people who actually went from trans to cis, that number is actually around 2-4%
