On a hike the other day, we noticed the cryptobiotic soil crust seemed to have a friend growing on it. A quick iNaturalist check shows it as cerebral fishscale lichen. Which is the best species name I've seen in a while. Here's to you cerebral fishscale lichen.

A great guess and definitely that part of the world. It is the Cumbres & Toltec narrow gauge. But, this is Durango Silverton. Both are worth the trip.

A black bear is poking around the neighborhood, doing bear things. They're well fed based on the scat I've seen.

Like any good silviculturist, I'm spending the weekend tracking my old forestry treatments. Happy to see aspen regeneration taking off all over the place.
