Reform landslide victory.

However, Starmer's time in Government has been marked by technocratic efficiency. Lack of scandals. Sensible grown up politics. Real progress mending the economy, mending our relationship with Europe, actual 'non-Rwanda fantasy' based action on Immigration...

Labour is always attacked by the left. Even Attlee, "the immediate post-war years were marked by a betrayal of socialist idealism and by wasted opportunities. Instead of using public backing as evident in 1945 to introduce wholesale socialist change, Labour instead opted for cautious reformism..."

Look I agree what Israel is doing now is terrible and a war crime but the Holocaust was a specific and uniquely awful event in human history so maybe use another word. 6 million people have not been killed in industrialised death factories without any provocation.

Well if a bunch of celebs think it’s a good idea… Who am I to argue (although in this case they’re probably right).

Lot of nonsense how many times have Lib Dems done really well at bye elections/local elections... How often has that translated to great GE progress for them?

Let's see the receipts on this...

Oh I’m not a Thatcher fan. But she was the most successful politician of my lifetime and she was undoubtedly a leader not a follower.
May 3, 2025 at 9:27 AM
If they had won that by election by another 6 votes I don’t think people would be that concerned. Narrow margins.
May 3, 2025 at 7:23 AM
Thatch won 3 elections but lost quite a few by-elections/local elections. Folks don’t mind giving the Government a bloody nose when it doesn’t matter. However, at a GE they get more sensible .

If he holds his course. When Thatcher was enacting unpopular policies and was pressured to change course she would just say there is no other choice. Maybe a little compromise on the winter fuel thing to show he’s listening. But ‘it’s the economy stupid’ so fiscal responsibility is the strategy.
May 3, 2025 at 7:19 AM
You're right. An incumbent Government have never before recieved a kicking in local elections or byelections and then gone on to win a general election. That is why there have been so many Liberal Democratic Prime Ministers over the years...

Imagine the ECHR rule that the Supreme Court is wrong and try to overturn a ruling which outside of Social Media echo chambers is largely popular in the general population. Imagine the fuel that gives to likes of Farage who argues for leaving the ECHR.
April 29, 2025 at 8:47 PM
Imagine if they take this to the ECHR and that court agrees with the Supreme Court. That could cement this across Europe. Could be huge for the people who brought the case in the first place...

Of course you have. Eternal opposition is so much more satisfying than having to deal with actual power. The Lib Dems will never win a general election so they can promise whatever they want and never be accountable. Hope you enjoy misleading bar graphs. Cool for you.

Look we don’t win from the far left. Ask Michael Foot. Even lovely Ed Millaband was too far left for the British Public. But you may be right about the brittleness of this election victory. Time will tell. The true test is at the next General Election. Sustained power.

Thanks for the meme but objectively, factually Corbyn did in fact lose. He lost against the worst Tory campaign and candidate in modern history, a party rift in disunity, and then in catastrophic style once again. Starmer won a massive majority. Facts are facts.
April 23, 2025 at 7:26 AM
So Corbyn did well in 2017 which was nothing to do with May running a shite, inept campaign and all to do with people being inspired. Starmer did well in Scotland in 2024 solely because SNP ran a shite inept campaign and had nothing to do with Starmer running a good campaign?
April 22, 2025 at 2:14 PM
I would suggest that Starmer was pretty honest in his campaign. He certainly didn’t over promise. Corbyn’s offer was clearly viewed by most people as unrealistic and unaffordable. Hence the success of the ‘magic money tree’ attack. metro.co.uk/2019/11/21/e...

I haven't read this but I would suggest it is named after the Pagan Goddess of Eostre who was the Goddess of Spring and fertilty hence rabbits and eggs. Thanks Neil Gaiman.

I already explained it Corbyn piled up votes in metropolitan areas where they did no good as these seats were already in the bag. Starmer had a more targeted election strategy. They poured resource into Marginals. Labour managed to win seats nationwide, inc. in Scotland which JC didn’t.
