A fascinating place Mark - it took a real battering during the siege of 1646. My ancestor Captain John Harling was there with Sir Thomas Tyldesley and is listed amongst the Royalist officers in the articles of surrender in July.

It would have been little more than a cart - 'carriers' in the C17 were transporters of goods. Our modern conception of a 'carriage' would have been incredibly rare at the time, limited to the wealthy.
