I can’t see the details, the resolution is poor but take a look at Gemini’s Wacker oxidation mechanism..
November 24, 2025 at 5:10 PM
I asked the latest version of Gemini (nano banana..) to DRAW the mechanism of the Wacker oxidation.

This is my usual test that always fails! Is this the worst yet?

I’d forgotten about the Power Book Weight-saving Device.

Anyone remember this?

I see your point but it was never like this in the past!

The same argument applies to India which often leads the way.

The figures from the last year and comparison with the year before.

Two Chinese cities top the charts with Indian centres pushed lower down.

Remarkably, active users from China top the list of countries beating India, US and UK (the usual top three) in the last week on ChemTube3D.com

They viewed a range of different topics and often used cn.bing.com to find it.

Is it really appropriate for Nature to display such crude representations of organic molecules in articles?

I thought there was a helium shortage! Didn’t expect to see this in HobbyCraft

And regular readers will know I like to challenge AI/LLM with the Walker oxidation mechanism in text and then graphically. Claude was a bit too creative….
June 2, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Claude does do better but lacks perspective even when specifically requested.

Gemini offered to draw a diagram of the transition state of an SN2 reaction.

Like a fool I asked it to go ahead!

Not, as it turns out, Donald the First

WhatsApp now sports “optional” AI that can’t be disabled!

Wacker mechanism description was fine. No graphics available yet.

Spartan using 1,129.3% CPU to run a DFT calculation.
Parallel processing is the way to go!
Maybe I should have tried the Estimated DFT??

New iPhone, asked ChatGPT about the mechanism of the Wacker oxidation, my usual test of LLMs…
#Chemsky
“Here is a diagram illustrating the mechanism of the Wacker oxidation process, showcasing each key step clearly labelled with structures, electron flow arrows, and catalytic cycles.”

I dipped into the bird app and came across this completely incorrect headline apparently generated by Grok.

There is a warning that Grok makes things up…..

Be careful what you believe!

My standard test of AI LLMs is to ask for a detailed mechanism of the Wacker oxidation. All those I tried previously failed horribly. Grok was good with text but by offering a diagram of a catalytic cycle and delivering something different, the diagram problem continues. Zoom in for fun!

Reading a recent JACS paper on iPad.

Why are the diagrams so low resolution compared to the text which is razor sharp?

This is a disturbing trend in publishing, the diagrams are the best bit!

Following are n the footsteps of @chemscrapes.bsky.social Here is the conclusion of the Gemini summary of ChemTube3D.com

You can read the full details Https://g.co/gemini/share/8d89e152d673

A well-written, accurate press release in seconds. Now that is LLM at its best.

It’s gets worse …
This is morphine!
March 30, 2025 at 10:18 AM
I asked Gemini about morpholine.
I must say the “structure” is worse than I would expect from a weak A level student. Just horrible. #chemsky
