Not an apples to apples comparison. Something more apt would to be compare "ChatGPT" to "iPhone". Or compare "Large Language Model" to "Mobile Phone".

I think poor infields create safety issues which I'm wouldn't be super excited about

Love this. Much less heavy handed than defensive positioning restrictions.

Use whatever term you want I'm telling you I think it's unclear and poor communication.
January 28, 2025 at 11:46 PM
Artificial intelligence has been a field of study since the mid 20th century. Im not trying to be pedantic but that's just such a vague term when youre trying to describe something very specific. I think a better term for what youre trying to describe would be pre transformer or something.

I disagree about heavy pollution for reasons I already specified. The training data point is fair and hope the courts come to some kind of resolution.

What is "pre-AI"?
January 28, 2025 at 11:14 PM
You're now shifting the conversation, the point you implied that I disagree with is that it is unethical to use a chatbot.
January 28, 2025 at 10:04 PM
Personally, I'm going to focus on the biggest levers for reducing my impact on pollution. 1) supporting green political movements 2) reducing transportation usage 3) eating less meat.

I'm not going to personally sweat the small stuff (and hope 1 is successful which can better help with that).

I cannot say that it is always true that one Google search can replace one chatgpt query. I often use chatgpt to learn a new technology, when in the past id usually default to a YouTube tutorial or something, which is magnitudes more energy demanding than either a llm query or Google search.

This didn't exist already? There was tons of radio ads already

The pollution caused by you using a chatbot has been heavily exaggerated: andymasley.substack.com/p/individual...
Using ChatGPT is not bad for the environment
And a plea to think seriously about climate change without getting distracted

Cool thread. Maybe the next piece of data the statcast gods give us is related to the average "pivot point" for each batter
