President of @atheists.org. Adopted. Philadelphian by choice, but forever a Midwesterner.
I'm grateful for the incredible doctors at Penn Veterinary Hospital, especially the oncology team, who helped us navigate the past 3 months. And I'm glad I was able to let Carter rest at home, in his (my) bed, instead of dragging him to an unfamiliar and scary hospital.

The NYC mayor oversees a budget of $110 billion and more than 300,000 staff. I'm fine with them making (relative) bank for the limited time they're in office — particularly when the private sector can dump an order of magnitude more on them. A first year associate at a Big Law firm makes $250,000!

Each House district represents about 200,000 constituents. Senators represent 800,000. How are they supposed to serve their communities while doing their legislative work when they have 3 or 4 staffers making barely above poverty wages?

House members receive between $17,500 and $20,000 per month for "staff, office
supplies, office equipment, postage, printing, telephone, travel" and all other expenses they have for running their official office. Senators get $60,000 per month.

But according to the current SCOTUS majority, only (generally made up) animus against White Christians counts. Everything else is completely rational — because anyone else isn't a real American entitled to full protection of our laws.

This is, of course, setting aside — and being intentionally obtuse about — the pure, unbridled animus that motivates literally every action Trump and his Christian Nationalist backers take against trans people! It's in the executive order! It's in ALL of their public statements!

"The economy is struggling. Well, time for a tax cut."
"The economy is roaring! Well, time for a tax cut."

Weird how that keeps happening.
