proud to have written my first piece for @hellgateny.bsky.social about a truly wild piece of NYC infrastructure—privately operated, super-fast Wi-Fi kiosks that have repeatedly underdelivered (or more specifically, delivered on 27% of its promises) for New Yorkers.

Expand broadband access? Strengthen 5G networks? Advertising? Eight years later, the LinkNYC kiosks don't fully succeed in doing any of those things—so what's the actual point?
