Ultimately this is an expression of the overall deterioration of faith in collective defense l and alliances: Only nuclear weapons can completely deter Russian aggression and people are no longer as confident that nuclear allies will come to their aid.

My Canadian relatives migrated from STJohns to Hamilton many years ago. I remember spending a summer there as a kid. Tough hard working people; the salt of the earth.

Possibly. On the other hand, there are armed masked agents attacking civilians in Chicago, Portland and LA, so those emotional outbursts are leading to a dangerous situation in many places

1) the law is not designed to punish rich white men
2) or string enough to stop populist authoritarian movements.
3) the Supreme Court is loath to get involved in political questions unless it is to help their preferred politician (in this case Trump).

Over and over in history right wing authoritarian movements used a violent incident as pretext to attack and oppress their opponents.

Yes. I have been practicing law for 40 years. I had the best Con Law teachers at UVA law school. But I can find no evidence of any unifying theory describing how this Court has ruled except to say that they have decided to discard the Constitution and anoint Trump dictator.

It is not just one man. It is also an entire political party more wedded to power than patriotism and a corrupt, politicized Supreme Court that justifies all of it.

Nuclear weapons provide the vast majority of USmilitary lethality. One Ohio class submarine is more lethal than all conventional forces combined. But no country will survive all out nuclear war. So these weapons should never be part of a department of war, only a department of defense.
