Read this today- just wow! @ldlapinski.bsky.social 's characters in their previous book "Jamie" were the friends I wished I'd had when I was at school. Kick Flip takes that to the next level. If you're thinking about coming out to your friends, this is the book for you. I cried so many tears of joy

The oldest surviving trade union banner in the world. The significance of the all seeing eye is debated -personally I interpret it in light of the previous oath making. If you scab - we see, we know. Note the nationalist jubilee bull****. Sir Starmer might be happy with this, but minus the honesty.

This is the coming out party. 30,000 trades unionists supporting the Tolpuddle Martyrs who faced transportation for trying to form a union.

This banner from the same period is interesting, because it tells a story of trades unionists coming out of the closet and onto the streets. The middle portion started life as a table cover for secret meetings & ended life in the great protests for the vote & against victimisation of trade unionists

Would you be prepared to defy an oath taken in front of skelly bones here, with a gun held to your head?

This is more like it! Compare this with union members who think it's fine to scab for personal reasons. "I will never act in opposition to the brotherhood in their attempts to support wages"

Shoemakers banner, also 1832. Seemed to me somewhat premature to celebrate the first "reform" act, especially given the struggles that broke out in its wake due to disappointment with such a tiny expansion of the vote to only the wealthiest bourgeoisie.

Some thoughts on the trade union banner collection at the fantastic People's History museum. This one is the oldest surviving miner's banner from Ashover, Derbyshire (which now has a Tory MP). "Success to miners!" I can't imagine raising a similar slogan about any workplace I've been chained to...
