Scientists are using radio telemetry to map out the home range and habitats of tiger salamanders in the Hamptons in New York.

But studying their movements and how far they move from the pools is challenging because of their underground lifestyle.

Parthenogenesis has been documented across a range of species but species which exhibit obligate parthenogenesis are truly fascinating. Now come to find out those species can exhibit polyploidy if they hybridize with a sexual species. Reptile genetics are so cool.

Broad-tailed gecko (Phyllurus platurus) - Sydney,NSW

For a gecko that’s common on the exterior walls of most of Sydney’s homes it’s certainly an awesome animal. Seeing my first individual in habitat was definitely a treat.

Usually when I hear a rustling in the bushes I assume that it’s just a brush turkey foraging through the leaf litter. Come to find out these two dominant male eastern water dragons were having a territorial dispute.

Rainbow lorikeets are absolutely the clowns of the parrot world. For whatever reason this one thought it needed to make a scene by loudly squawking and flapping up and down on this twig.

Juvenile blue tongue at Macquarie uni was out basking this morning.

Eastern water dragon (Intellagama leuserii) from a dreary morning a few weeks ago in the national park next to my university. They’re thick on the ground there but it’s hard to get tired of such a regal animal.
