There's public support for assisted dying so it may have happened sooner or later. But if it happens now I think Kim Leadbeater will be able to claim much personal credit. A less able, sympathetic and effective champion could easily have put off 30 or so wavering MPs. She'll have a place in history.

This was the tipping point that led to us deciding that MSF had to intervene in the UK.

I hope the investigation not only prevents a repeat of Manston, but leads to an overhaul of an irrational asylum management system which seems designed to cause harm.
