Spectacular debut novel: 200 pages of good v evil in 1950s Jamaica.

The village has a drunk for a preacher, he is fall-down piss yourself drunk in public much of the time. One day Apostle York arrives from nowhere to drive the Rum Preacher out of town and set the people back on the righteous path.

This is an outstanding short novel - but you have to not mind getting up to your elbows in gore. A family house deep in the mountains and the woods in Catalonia. There is witchcraft and devil summoning.

Fluid, beautiful, ugly, deranged and unputdownable. Essentially Angela Carter meets GG Marquez.
